Question & Answer:
- Q: My major is experimental Condensed Matter Physics.
I cannot do a lot of calculations. I just need to
know some basic ideas about theory of Solid State Physics.
Is it possible to give me lower standard in the
examination?
- A: No. As long as you take my course, you have to fulfill
all the requirements of this course. Credits come from
hard work, not lower standard. Good Credits come from harder work!
- Q: I am afraid I can not pass your course.
- A: As long as you take all notes of my lecture,
and finish all the assignments I give to you, you will
pass the exam. If you get ANY trouble in your
study, just come to my office in my office hour
and I will help you. You may also email your question
to get quicker answer.
- Q: Can you recommend any reference books?
- A:
- "Advanced Solid State Physics" by Philip Phillips (Westview Press, Boulder, 2003).
- "Quantum Theory of the Solid State" by Joseph Callaway (Academic Press, Boston, 1991).
- "Solid-State Physics: Introduction to the Theory" by James D. Patterson and Bernard C. Bailey (Springer, Berlin, 2007).
- "Quantum Theory of the Solid State: An Introduction" by Lev Kantorovich (Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht, 2004).
- "Quantum Theory of Solids" by C. Kittel (John Eiley & Sons, Inc., 1987).
